Rayners Lane is HA2, where the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines share the art-deco station people stop to photograph. We work on both sides of it. Flats over the shopping parade are one sort of job; the 1930s semis on the roads behind are another.

Flats above the parade

You get in through a door between two shops and up a flight of stairs, with no lift, so we carry up a portable extraction unit. None of that changes the price.

Kitchens in these flats are small, often galley-shaped, with a single oven the previous tenant has been hard on. A single oven costs £77 to clean and takes about two hours.

Behind the station, classic Metroland

Past the parade it’s the familiar layout: bay window, through lounge, kitchen at the back, one steep straight staircase. Most have kept their drives, so the carpet machine can stay outside while the hose goes through the hall.

Fitted carpet is still normal here, often through the whole ground floor. A through lounge is £61, a bedroom £36 and each flight £41. Grit does more damage than stains. Long front paths, wide avenues, shoes worn indoors. A thorough dry vacuum before extraction matters more here than which chemical we use.

Regular housework

We do more weekly cleaning in Rayners Lane than anywhere else in HA2. It’s £23 an hour per cleaner weekly and £24 fortnightly, and we keep the same cleaner on the house. Three hours suits a three bed semi, or four if there’s a converted loft with a second bathroom.

Booking Cost
Weekly, each cleaner per hour £23
Fortnightly, each cleaner per hour £24
Three hours a week £69
Four hours a week, loft bathroom £92

Limescale drives a lot of it. Chalky water fogs a shower screen within a fortnight, and that’s the usual reason people here switch from fortnightly to weekly after a month or two.

Kitchens in the semis get plenty of use, with a lot of families cooking fresh every day, and the hood and splashback show it. A weekly clean keeps that film down. Leave it a month and it needs an oven and hood visit or a deeper go.

Other prices and nearby areas

Move-out cleans go by size, from £156 for a studio up to £339 for three bedrooms, with ovens extra. The £67 minimum on one-off jobs really only affects a single carpet room booked by itself. A one-off deep clean starts at £186 for a pair over three hours. The H9 and H10 both loop round this side of the borough and stop near the station. We’re in South Harrow on the same days and out towards Eastcote and Pinner most weeks, so ring even if you’re on the boundary. Our home page has the summary.

Questions we get asked

Can you clean a flat above one of the parade shops?

Yes. Most have no lift, so we carry a portable machine up and allow extra time. A one bed move-out is £207 there, just as at street level.

What does a weekly cleaner cost in Rayners Lane?

£23 an hour per cleaner weekly, £24 fortnightly. Three hours a week on a three bed semi is £69, and four hours for a house with a loft bathroom is £92.

Can the carpets be cleaned when the house is?

Yes, though they’re priced separately and left until last so nobody walks over them. A through lounge is £61 and stairs £41 a flight.

Why do people here switch from fortnightly to weekly?

Mostly limescale. The hard water clouds a shower screen within two weeks, so a fortnightly visit loses its first hour to the bathroom. Weekly is £23 an hour against £24, which closes most of the gap.
