North Harrow is HA2, a stop on the Metropolitan line, with semis stretching out along Pinner Road and the roads off it. It’s Metroland at its most typical. It’s also the easiest patch we work, since almost every house has a drive where the machine can sit.
The same house, street after street
Hall, through lounge, kitchen at the back, then a steep straight flight up to three bedrooms and a bathroom. You learn it quickly. That layout is why a carpet booking here is so often a through lounge plus the stairs: £61 for the lounge and £41 for the flight.
The stairs are always the grubbiest carpet in the house. Everyone uses them, the front edges wear, and no upright vacuum gets into the back of a tread. We clean risers as well as treads, with a hand tool along the sides.
A typical whole-house carpet total
| Room | Price |
|---|---|
| Through lounge | £61 |
| Two bedrooms | £72 |
| One flight of stairs | £41 |
| Total | £174 |
That combination is the most common carpet job on this side of HA2, because it’s the most common house. A converted loft means another flight at £41. At that size the £67 minimum never comes into play.
Driveway access
Off-street parking makes a real difference. The extraction unit stays on the drive, the hose feeds in through the front door, and the suction is far stronger than any portable unit carried into a flat.
Closer to the station and the parade the houses get tighter, and some have lost the drive to a front extension. Let us know when booking and we’ll bring the portable. Cleaners without a car get to most of these jobs on the 183, which runs along Pinner Road.
Long family lets
Out here families tend to rent whole houses, often for years, through agents in the town centre. After a five-year tenancy the move-out clean meets five years of cooking film on the ceiling and five years of scale on the shower screen, so we allow extra time. The price stays fixed at £339 for a three bed, however long the let, plus £31 if you’d like the oven done.
Bathrooms in these houses are often the 1930s originals, with the tiling and enamel still in place. Affinity Water’s chalk supply leaves heavy scale on both, and ordinary bathroom spray does next to nothing against it. We use an acid descaler, test it on a hidden edge of old enamel first, and give it time to work.
Headstone Manor, the museum, is close by, which helps when someone is describing where they live.
Weekly work and prices
Rates here are the same as the rest of the borough. A weekly cleaner is £23 an hour, with three hours the norm for a three bed semi (more if the loft’s been done), and fortnightly is £24. We often do Pinner on the same run, and Harrow-on-the-Hill is one stop down the line. Everything else is on the front page.
Questions we get asked
What does carpet cleaning cost in North Harrow?
£36 per bedroom, £43 for a living room, £61 for a through lounge and £41 a flight. A usual semi with a through lounge, two bedrooms and the stairs comes to £174.
Do you need my driveway?
It helps, and most houses here have one. Parking on it means the kit only has a few yards to travel. Without one we use the nearest space on the road, which works fine but takes a little longer.
Can you clean a house with a loft conversion?
Yes, just mention it on the phone. For carpets it adds a second flight at £41, and on a weekly visit it usually turns three hours into four.
What does a move-out clean cost on a three bed semi here?
£339, whatever the length of the tenancy. The oven adds £31, making £370, and carpets go on by the room at the move-out rate, from £29 a bedroom.
