Harrow Weald is the top end of HA3, where the borough climbs towards Bushey Heath and the Grimsdyke woods. Houses here are bigger than anywhere else we go: detached, on deep plots, with wide drives.

Bigger houses take longer

A four bedroom house up here needs about twice the time of a two bed flat in the town centre. Obvious, perhaps, until you’re the one booking. A four bed end of tenancy clean is £425, and we generally send three cleaners, because two people in a house that size makes for a very long day and the last rooms suffer.

Utility rooms and downstairs cloakrooms are common, and sometimes there’s a second sink out in the garage. It all adds time. Conservatories get their inside glass and frames cleaned.

Range cookers and double ovens

We see a lot of range cookers here. Five burners, two cavities, plenty of chrome. Every removable part comes off for a soak while the cavities and door glass are cleaned by hand in the kitchen. Griddle plates and warming drawers take extra time, so mention them when you ring.

Large houses like these are often let whole to families through local agents, sometimes for years at a time. When a long let ends, the kitchen and bathrooms carry years of use, and on a four or five bed we’d plan the day around three people from the start. Loft conversions and side returns are common here too, so describe the house as it stands now.
